Tour Itinerary

Upon your arrival at Cairo International Airport, a representative will meet you and transfer you to your hotel by a private air-conditioned vehicle. After your first buffet breakfast is served at the hotel, you will meet your tour guide, who is certified and ready to take you around Cairo’s sights, starting from the Giza Pyramids site. This tour of the Giza Pyramids is intended to arouse your inner archaeologist interested in ancient Egypt, and the guide will answer all your questions, or at least try to, during the whole trip. Up close, you will find yourself facing the Great Pyramid built for King Cheops, 146 meters into the sky, and standing even today, was built during the Old Kingdom, in the Fourth Dynasty courtesy of one of the most famous pharaohs of ancient Greek history. King Khufu (Cheops), son of Sneferu I known for his four grand pyramids, and brother of Khafre who built the second pyramid of Giza that still has its casing at the top. He was also the father of Mycerinus who built the pyramid that is the smallest of all yet the most important of the visible pyramids from the plateau, where you will also have an opportunity to take a camel trek and enjoy the beauty of this historic land of pharaohs.

Then, head over to the Valley Temple of King Chephren where his body underwent mummification to explore the stunning Sphinx statue made out of limestone that depicts the fierce lion-headed figure with a man’s head, known as a Sphinx representing bravery and intelligence.

We will continue our journey to the necropolis of Saqqara, which is 200 years older than the Giza Necropolis and contains the Step Pyramid complex of Djoser, the king of the Third Dynasty, and the pyramid of Teti whose reign lasted in the Sixth Dynasty before the First Intermediate Period. As you walk into one of the elite tombs for example the tomb of Kagemni who was a judge and married to King Teti's daughter appreciate the beautiful ancient Egyptian architecture.

Next, we will move to what is today known as Mit Rahina the site of the former capital of Egypt. It is known as a historical site because excavations have been conducted there revealing numerous interesting objects belonging to ancient Egyptian culture from the Old, Middle, and New Kingdoms. Memphis, Sphinx second only to the great Sphinx of Giza set next to a colossal figure of Ramses II an important 18th dynasty king.

Lunch will provide you an opportunity before we will make a return to the hotel which will also become your base for the night spent in Cairo.

After having breakfast at the hotel, you will be undertaking an interesting city tour of Cairo with a qualified tour guide. The excursion will begin with a tour of the Islamic Cairo region starting from the Cairo Citadel.

You will visit the medieval fortification named the Saladin Citadel constructed by Sultan Saladin in the 12th century to defend Cairo from the external dangers of that time. Saladin also used mercenaries from his newly formed Egyptian army, who later gained money and political influence and became popular and ruled that region until Ali Pasha overthrew them in a violent situation known as the Citadel massacre.

Relating to Mohamed Ali, you will also tour his famous mosque in the citadel, which is made of white alabaster. Mohamed Ali Mosque is also famous because it is built on a hill, where on a clear day, one can see the Giza Pyramids.

Next, you will go back to Old Cairo so that you can start the Coptic Cairo tour where some of the oldest Christian churches can be found. As stated by historians, the Holy Family fled to this area from King Herod’s oppression and stayed there for about three or four months. They are in the underground space and a church known as Abu Serga was later built on top of it. In addition, you will be visiting the Hanging Church, which was erected on two towers that belonged to the ancient Roman fortress of Babylon. Finally, you will end your Coptic tour with a visit to Ben Ezra Synagogue, one of the Middle East's oldest Jewish synagogues.

Enjoy a fine dining lunch before you head off to the hectic Khan El Khalili market located in the Old Cairo, Al Hussein vicinity, as part of your Egypt vacation packages. Al Hussein, the grandson of the Prophet Muhammad, has ancient architecture and traditions of venerating the old mosques dating back to the 9th century and multiple graves of the Prophet’s relatives and aides.
